The Clare Valley Riesling Trail is one of Australia’s most popular and accessible walking and cycling trails.
Steeped in history, flanked by quiet townships and vineyards, blessed with stunning views and never far from delightful restaurants, cafes and cellar doors, the Riesling Trail is immensely enjoyable and free.
The Clare Valley's reputation for riesling inspired the naming of the Riesling Trail - a recreational trail for walking and cycling, travelling along 35 kilometres and connecting the townships of Auburn, Leasingham, Watervale, Penwortham, Sevenhill, Clare and White Hut. The trail is an integral segment of the 800 kilometre Mawson Trail and provides a wonderful opportunity to discover and experience the townships, soak up the history of the Clare Valley and enjoy the grandeur of its unique, unspoilt rural landscape.

Riesling Trail Website
You need not travel the full length of the Riesling Trail in one attempt. Three 'Loop Trails' exist which allow you to return to your starting point without back-tracking. Loop trails are sign posted and maps are available from local outlets.
Use and Terrain
The Riesling Trail is great for walking and cycling, also ideal for both wheelchairs and pushers. While the length of the trail can be cycled in approximately two hours, the experience will be enhanced by completing the trip in stages (via the Loop Trails) and visiting attractions along the way. You'll find picturesque countryside with spectacular views of the Clare Valley's vineyards and hillsides. A tranquil and safe thoroughfare, with a gentle gradient.
Suitable for year round visits - use caution in summer months during days of extreme temperatures.
You'll find signs in place along the Riesling Trail indicating directions and distances, points of special interest and 'Loop Trails'.
Riesling Trail car parking is available at Clare, Sevenhill, Watervale and Auburn.
Friends of the Riesling Trail
