Indii’s win does the Clare Valley proud

Locals of the Clare Valley already know how good Indii of Clare is, but now the rest of the state knows it as well.

The restaurant was named Best Indian/Sub-Continent Restaurant at the 2018 SA Restaurant & Catering Awards for Excellence on Monday night.

It was the second time that the local favourites were nominated for the award having been nominated for the first time in 2017.

Owner Sunny Mehrok said he was shocked to hear their name called out despite heading into the awards with confidence.

“It was a bit of a shock but we were thinking that we might win this year, but it was still a shock,” Mr Mehrok.

“We are very proud about what we do with our food and service so that is why we were pretty confident.

“We did not win last year, there were a few things that needed to improve but we improved all of that and got the award this year.”

Indii of Clare were the only regional restaurant to be nominated in a category dominated by metropolitan eateries.

Despite this though, Mr Mehrok said that where you are based does not matter at the end of the day.

“It does not make a difference if you are regional or metropolitan,” Mr Mehrok said.

“If your food is good, your service is good, the atmosphere is good and the whole experience is good, it does not matter where you are.

“We are very proud to be in the Clare Valley so that is great.”

Mr Mehrok said it was a tough category to compete in.

Indii is now in the running to be crowned the Best Indian Restaurant in Australia later this year as part of the National Restaurant & Catering Awards for Excellence.
