Greenslade Chickens

Free range chicken producer

In 1973, second generation chicken farmer John Greenslade from Riverton, purchased 500 chicks to use up heating gas left over from his family’s discontinued point of lay operation. Initially, the chicks did not have a market, and as such, were sold by word of mouth straight to the consumer. This grew to the stage where by 1990, 30,000 chickens were grown and sold per year. Today, Greenslades grow approximately 200,000 free-range birds annually. It’s a real family operation; Matthew and Cath have continued to develop the business rapidly, tapping into niche markets in South Australia and beyond.
