Cellar Door & Providore

In 2007, Sydney-siders Richard Woods and Rasa Fabian left the highflying corporate world for a change to South Australia’s rustic Clare Valley. After working in the region for other brands, in 2013, they opened their gates to a cellar door and providore in the heart of Watervale, and named it, Shut the Gate Wines. Shut the Gate Wines is named after Richard’s fathers country sayings “Remember boys, always shut the gate, the guns always loaded and the horse always kicks”. Today, the business produces 100 tonnes each vintage, and 12 small batches of regional wines. The couple are on a ‘vinoventure’ to produce premium, regional wines of style and character.
