Luke Thurgate is a drawing lecturer from Adelaide Central School of Art and an artist with an active studio practice, currently engaged in a residency at Burra Gallery.

The Burra Archive is an ephemeral snapshot of our local community and a framework for sharing a sense of place and identity. Items offered to the archive are being directly incorporated in to the drawing. Luke is interested in the mnemonic aspect of the subject matter and is treating the residence as a kind of real-time research project about Burra residents and their personal and collective histories.

This project brings in many aspects of art and community. It has been in the planning for nearly 2 years yet only lasts for 2 weeks. The work will be viewable until December 23. After Christmas and before the next exhibition, starting February 14, the walls will be cleaned and repainted.

Many thanks to Country Arts SA via a Regional Arts Fund Grant, and sponsors Regional Council of Goyder and Waterloo Wind farm for enabling BRAG to bring this project to fruition.
